Meissa Ionis – Epic Propulsion (EP)
Released September 25th 2014
(AMPEFF 004 / LP)
Noise / Lo-Fi / Experimental

Epic Propulsion is the second release from the Meissa Ionis side project and marks the first official EP under this name. Originally recorded as an improvised session in 2014, the EP showcases an experimental approach to sound design, utilizing unconventional recording techniques and instrumentation. At its core, the release revolves around the use of piezo microphones attached to various objects, capturing subtle vibrations and resonances that would otherwise go unheard. An acoustic guitar also plays a key role in shaping the sonic landscape, blending organic textures with manipulated sounds to create a unique and immersive listening experience.
Despite its lo-fi aesthetic, Epic Propulsion explores a diverse range of sonic elements, drawing inspiration from ambient and drone music while incorporating industrial and IDM influences. The EP begins with atmospheric and textural compositions, gradually evolving into a looped rhythmic structure that carries hints of mechanical precision and hypnotic repetition. The final track emerges as a pulsating industrial-infused piece, closing the release with a sense of propulsion and momentum, staying true to its title.
The raw and unfiltered nature of the recording process lends the EP an organic and intimate quality, highlighting the improvisational aspect of the session. Each sound feels immediate and spontaneous, capturing a moment in time where experimentation guided the creative process.
Epic Propulsion is available as a free digital download and as a limited-edition CDr release, offering listeners the opportunity to experience this unique sonic exploration in both physical and digital formats. The EP serves as an essential chapter in the Meissa Ionis project, further pushing the boundaries of experimental music and sound manipulation.
